Wizards defeat Detroit Pistons

Wizards won their final three games of the regular NBA season, the team just needed a win to protect the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference, while the top-seeded Pistons only wanted to avoid injuries.

The Wizards did everything they could to win so they would not face Miami or New Jersey. In the first game quarter, the Pistons still looked like the NBA team that will open the post-season on Sunday; Detroit led 24-19 at period's end holding the Wizards to 33 percent shooting.

In the second period the Wizards rallied to take a 49-41 halftime advantage, Detroit's starters kept the game close for most of the third quarter, but by the end they were done for the night and the Wizards achieved their goal. It will be in the second round of the playoffs. Detroit (64-18) opens against eighth-seeded Milwaukee on Sunday.
The Wizards also have a player who will be making his playoff debut; there is expectation and tension, but the Wizards figure is to be little more than a just footnote.
